We invite you to enroll in a 120-hour online Slovenian language course

In June, we’ll be starting a 120-hour Slovenian language course—this time via Zoom!

We are announcing the schedule for an additional 120-hour Slovenian language course!

This course is intended for speakers of NON-SLAVIC languages who have already completed the 180-hour course.

Schedule: Tuesday , Wednesday, Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Expected start date: June 30 2026

Goal: Level A2

Professor: Sanela Vodovnik Knez

Price: 720 € ( option to pay in 4 installments)

The course fee does not include the “Slovenščina” textbook (€28), which we will send to you by mail.

COURSE CONTENT – In this course, you will:

1. discussed the following topics: self-introduction, description of the country, Slovenian landmarks, Slovenians and their character, description of the family, household chores, housing and living, work and occupation, leisure time, education, health, healthy lifestyle, public institutions and services, food and drink, clothing and footwear, the environment and surroundings (weather, traffic, pets), Slovenian holidays and customs, the political system in Slovenia;
2. read and understand simpler journalistic texts, discuss them, and express their own opinions;
3. practiced how to find key information in advertisements, announcements, and instructions;
4. practiced how to report, both orally and in writing, on past, present, and future events in their lives (describing their family, home, and education, description of one’s profession and workday, discussion of a healthy lifestyle and personal hygiene, description of eating habits, discussion of pets and gardening, description of a route, description of a country and a town);
5. expand your vocabulary and practice dialogues so that you’ll know what to do when you need various services or information: at the bank, at the post office, at the police station, at the auto repair shop, at the library, at the store, at the doctor’s office, at a restaurant, during a phone call, in conversation with coworkers, and during a job interview;
6. write various types of written texts: job applications, resumes, invitations, apologies, replies to emails, emails to a doctor, complaints, and claims;
7. We also covered grammar: the declension of adjectives, nouns, and personal pronouns in all cases and numbers; the use of verbs in all tenses and numbers; the use of modal verbs, the conditional, and the imperative; the comparison of adjectives; adverbs of place and time; the correct use of prepositions and conjunctions; word order.

The course will be held provided that at least 8 participants register.

Course Content – As part of the course, participants will:

1. explore the following topics: personal introduction, description of the country, Slovenian landmarks, Slovenians and their national character, family description, household chores, housing and living conditions, employment and professions, leisure activities, education, health and a healthy lifestyle, public institutions and services, food and beverages, clothing and footwear, environment and living space (weather, traffic, and pets), Slovenian holidays and customs, and the political system in Slovenia.
2. read and understand simpler journalistic texts, participate in discussions about them, and express personal opinions.
3. practice identifying key information in advertisements, announcements, and instructions.
4. practice oral and written reporting on past, present, and future events from one’s own life (such as describing family, housing, education, profession, and daily work routine; discussing a healthy lifestyle and personal hygiene; describing eating habits; talking about pets and gardening; describing routes; and describing a country and the place where they live).
5. expand their vocabulary and practice dialogues so they can confidently handle various service situations, such as at the bank, post office, police station, auto repair shop, library, store, doctor’s office, and restaurant.
6. compose various types of texts, including job applications, resumes, invitations, apologies, email replies, emails to a doctor, complaints, and claims.
7. It also covers some grammar topics: the declension of nouns, adjectives, and personal pronouns in all cases and numbers; the use of verbs in all tenses and numbers; the use of modal expressions, the conditional mood, and the imperative mood; the comparison of adjectives; adverbs; the correct use of prepositions and conjunctions; and word order.
