FINAL CONFERENCE of the ERASMUS+ project “Strengthening Personal Responsibility in the Prison System for Social Sustainability”

We have brought our project to promote sustainable practices in working with incarcerated individuals to a close, but our work to promote and strengthen sustainable practices within the prison system and beyond is far from over. Sustainable behavior is, in fact, crucial for the long-term conservation of resources, environmental stability, and improving the quality of life for current and future generations. We would like to share our key findings and best practices with you, so we invite you to join us at the project’s closing conference.

More about the project

The project was carried out in collaboration with the lead partner, Cene Štupar – CILJ from the Republic of Slovenia, and the Center for Education from the Republic of Croatia. Cene Štupar – CILJ, as an external contractor for the Slovenian Administration for the Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions, is responsible for organizing high school programs, National Vocational Qualifications (NPK), and various other training programs for inmates. The Center for Education, an organizational unit of the Administration for the Prison System and Probation of the Republic of Croatia, plans, proposes, organizes, and implements numerous training programs for employees of the prison system of the Republic of Croatia. Both prison system administrations—those of the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia—have supported the project.

By drawing on shared practical experiences from two neighboring countries, we have compiled the best examples of sustainable practices in both the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia. Using these practices and the identified needs, we developed a comprehensive training program on sustainable development for employees (managers, staff, teachers, educational and non-educational personnel, etc.) within the prison system and piloted it through two program sessions, one in Croatia and one in Slovenia. Participants in the pilot sessions exchanged experiences and improved their competencies, knowledge, and skills regarding sustainability and the green transition within the prison system, as well as how to integrate sustainable practices into work routines and into the work and education of inmates.
