WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE YOUR BASIC SKILLS EVALUATED FOR FREE?
We have some good news for you. This is now possible, as the online skills assessment questionnaire—or SVOS—is available. It is suitable for adults of all ages, designed for individual assessment, and you’ll receive your results immediately after completing the questionnaire.
WHY ASSESS SKILLS?
Lately, we’ve been reading and hearing a lot about so-called soft skills (communication, teamwork…) or various job-specific competencies. However, in order to function successfully in modern society, we first need well-developed basic skills (literacy, math, and digital skills).
Now, we can also assess them for free using a valid, validated questionnaire, because that’s the only way we can see what we’re good at and where there’s still room to develop our skills.
WHAT EXACTLY ARE LITERACY SKILLS?
Reading comprehension tasks measure how well we understand and use information from materials such as newspapers, brochures, manuals, and websites. They also measure how skilled we are at finding and using information in forms, schedules, charts, and tables. Most adults use literacy skills to answer questions, gain knowledge, or for entertainment.
We use literacy skills, for example, when:
- We’re looking for a job online,
- We learn about quitting smoking from a brochure available at the clinic,
- Take aspirin according to the instructions on the box,
- We want to find out from the health and safety manual when we need to wear safety glasses at work,
- We look up the departure time of the next bus on the bus schedule,
- We read and fill out the form giving permission for our child to participate in the school field trip.
WHAT ARE MATHEMATICAL SKILLS?
Most adults use their math skills to answer questions or make decisions in various everyday situations.
We use math skills, for example, when:
- We estimate the distance between two locations on the map,
- We cook according to the recipe,
- we manage personal finances,
- we interpret the weather report,
- we keep records of working hours,
- We keep track of inventory at the store.
WHAT ARE digital SKILLS?
Digital skills are becoming increasingly important in everyday life, a fact that has become particularly evident during the pandemic. Well-developed digital skills enable us to navigate various situations more easily and to cope more effectively with the various technologies we encounter everywhere and that are evolving day by day.
We use digital skills, for example, when:
- We search online for healthcare providers,
- We use a spreadsheet to create a budget and track our spending,
- We’re helping a friend install a new computer program,
- We assess whether the information on the website comes from a reliable source,
- We use various online tools for online communication,
- We create digital and multimedia content,
- Let’s store our data in the cloud.
