We career counselors have been trained as “game masters” and have acquired new knowledge and tools in the field of career counseling.
At the futuristic XR lab in the Ljubljana Technology Park, we conducted a pilot test of a “career escape room” set in the future. Career counselors and advisors also met a special guest: an AI avatar of Steve Jobs. Everyone created their own future career. Participants tackled KARPO missions and puzzles based on future-oriented themes, including energy, information, and biodiversity—and offer a structured approach to exploring and defining emerging professions. These missions align with global priorities: sustainability and technological innovation. By engaging participants in tasks that mimic real-world challenges—shaping the careers of the future and solving interdisciplinary puzzles—KARPO missions bridge education and career preparation. In an innovative and motivating way, they spark interest in various career opportunities and fields that participants may not have even considered before. Participants worked together to brainstorm, develop strategies, and reflect on their learning experiences. This fosters a deeper understanding of sustainable practices, emerging technologies, and an adaptable mindset—all of which are essential for the workforce of the future. The event demonstrated how innovative methods can help young people and adults explore their career paths. We are grateful to the participants for their wonderful responses and feedback.
