Margita Vehar, an active businesswoman, was an athlete in her youth and has always been connected to nature. That is why, immediately after losing her full-time job, she began processing Ptuj garlic on a field that had lain fallow for 30 years. However, she couldn’t realize all her entrepreneurial ideas through just a side business on the farm, so she decided to open a sole proprietorship and expand her activities to include a herb garden and self-sufficiency in Polhov Gradec. In addition, she and her partner were also involved in beekeeping, so they planted a variety of herbs around their beehives. All of this eventually evolved into the cultivation and processing of herbs. This led to the creation of tea blends, including Blagaj Herbal Tea, which is a registered trademark in the municipality.
In addition to single-flower honey, she also produces honey infused with herbs, honey with beet juice, and pollen. She also preserves vegetables such as garlic, shallots, hot peppers, beans, wild garlic shoots, and red beets. She also makes berry and fruit jams, herbal syrups, and much more.
She participates in fairs and festivals with her crops and products, such as the monthly themed festivals in Celje, the St. Nicholas and New Year’s fairs, the St. Gregory’s Day fairs in Logatec, the Saturday fairs in Vič in Ljubljana, in Vrhnika, and in Log pri Brezovici, the Carriers’ Fair in Postojna, the St. Michael’s Fair in Mengeš, and products from the Land of Herbs can even be found in some stores throughout Ljubljana.
Ms. Vehar strives to add value to her work by sharing her knowledge and experience through lectures and raising awareness—particularly among young people—about healthy living, connecting with nature, and self-sufficiency.
