Cene Štupar – CILJ invites you to a free 100-hour financial literacy program, where we’ll discuss a wide range of topics—not just money.
With the exception of a few isolated training programs, Slovenia has not yet had a systematic adult education program in the field of financial literacy, and especially not one in which the individual—rather than the interests of a particular financial institution—is at the center of the program.
Why Financial Literacy?
First of all, because we weren’t taught in school how to navigate the world of finance. Today, however, financial literacy is becoming increasingly important for successfully tackling everyday challenges.
The world we live in is changing and becoming digitized very rapidly. Financial literacy, along with reading, math, and digital literacy, is the answer to all these changes and the foundation upon which our personal well-being and quality of life in the future will be based.
Financial literacy enables people to make sound decisions and achieve prosperity for themselves and their loved ones.
The program focuses on the holistic development of the individual; we will also discuss our desires, needs, values, and habits. Due to increasing digitalization, we will also devote a significant amount of time to digital literacy and online safety.
Target Group
The target group consists of older adults who wish to acquire or update their financial literacy skills in order to better navigate the financial landscape, manage their finances, and ensure a comfortable retirement for themselves and their loved ones.
The target group may also include adults with gaps in their digital and mathematical literacy. They will be able to address these gaps through elective modules in both of these areas.
Program Duration
The program consists of 100 instructional hours.
Timeline
The program will take place from November through February; the scheduled start date is November 7, 2023.
The course will be held twice a week for 5 instructional hours each session, tentatively from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The exact schedule will be announced at a later date.
Location of Implementation
The main part of the program will take place at the headquarters of the Cene Štupar-CILJ Institute, 5 Ulica Novljana Ambrožiča, Ljubljana (BTC). During the program, we will visit several financial institutions, and if necessary, we will also conduct some sessions online.
Program Content
The program is structured in a modular format. It consists of required and elective modules. We will determine the elective content (modules) together at the start of the program, based on the participants’ needs and preferences.
The required modules are:
- ALL ABOUT MONEY (history, characteristics, trends, and pitfalls)
- FINANCIAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT (income, expenses, savings, major life events …)
- INSURANCE (types, risk assessment, underwriting process, claims, retirement, and supplemental pension insurance)
- THE FINANCIAL ENVIRONMENT (how it works, banks, inflation, etc.)
- CONSUMER PROTECTION (consumer rights, legislation, potential scams, safe use of the Internet, etc.)
- INVESTMENTS (Investment Basics, Different Types of Investments)
In the elective section, we’ll take a closer look at each asset class, discuss inheritance, explore the pros and cons of online shopping, and more.
Contractors
Rok Trdan will coordinate the program . Various financial experts from the fields of banking, insurance, cybersecurity, real estate, and other related areas will join him in delivering the individual modules.
