Initial Integration of Immigrants programme (abbreviated ZIP) is an educational programme of teaching Slovenian to the immigrants. The programme includes 180 teaching hours of organised education. The programme integrates contents from every-day life and work, which stimulate the integration of immigrants into the Slovenian society.

 

The educational programme was designed by the Slovenian Institute for Adult Education and approved by the Minister of Education and Sport. More information on the publicly valid programme available here.

 

TUITION FREE COURSES for TARGET GROUPS ACCORDING TO:

 

  • Beginner's module of ZIP programme (60 hours) is for adult immigrants, 16 years of age and over, who are literate in Latin alphabet.
  • Advanced module of ZIP programme (120 hours) is for adult immigrants, 16 years of age and over, who have already taken up the Beginner's module ZIP or a 60-hour Slovenian language course and have successfully finished either. This module is also suitable for other adult immigrants, who are able to communicate in Slovenian on the level described in the document Preživetvena raven v slovenščini (Pirih Svetina et al., 2004).

 

The conditions to finish individual module of the programme are as follows:

  • Active cooperation in drawing individual educational plan
  • Active cooperation in carrying-out the programme and creating a personal portfolio
  • Following the achievements in the individual educational plan
  • 80% attendance within the organized education

 

A SHORT CONTENTS SUMMARY OF THE PROGRAMME

 

Beginner's module of the ZIP programme enables acquiring the knowledge of basic communication in the language of the environment as well as acquiring the basic information on the history, culture and constitutional arrangement of the state in the stage of accommodating or the initial residence in Slovenia. It is interlinked with the advanced module in the sense of the contents and stages. The knowledge and knowing, supposed to be achieved in the Beginner's module, are on the level described in the document Preživetvena raven v slovenščini (Pirih Svetina et al., 2004). It encompasses seven contents fields.

Advanced module enables gaining knowledge for basic communication in the language of the environment as well as gaining basic information on the society, life, history, culture and constitutional arrangement of the receiving state. The knowledge and knowing, supposed to be acquired in the module, is on the A2 level as described in the document CEFR (for the participants who achieved the A1 level in the beginner's module) or B1 (for others).  It consists of ten contents fields and the introductory module.
