Program Objectives:

The goal of the program is to provide individuals with recognized international protection status with the knowledge of the Slovenian language necessary to successfully pass the basic-level Slovenian language proficiency test, or a level of proficiency in the Slovenian language sufficient for basic communication. The process of learning the Slovenian language incorporates content related to daily life and work, which strengthens the integration of immigrants into Slovenian society.

Conclusion:
A certificate of participation and completion of the program will be issued to anyone who:

• actively participates in class, achieves the set educational goals and knowledge standards, and
• is present in class at least 80% of the time.

A certificate of participation and successful completion of the program, issued by Cene Štupar – CILJ NI, is not equivalent to a legally valid document or a certificate of proficiency in the Slovenian language at a specific level (A1–C1 according to the CEFR), issued by the Center for Slovenian as a Second and Foreign Language (IC) at the Faculty of Arts.

The public procurement is planned as part of the project “Slovenian Language Courses and Exams for Third-Country Nationals and Persons Under International Protection” (AM.S02.1.4-01) and is financed by the Asylum, Migration, and Integration (AMIF), covering 75% of eligible costs, and from the budget of the Republic of Slovenia, specifically funds from the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants, covering 25%.

• December 2023 and January 2024: applications, enrollment, proficiency testing; 75 people
• January 2024: Start of courses; 22 participants; collaboration with Veris d.o.o.; preparation of project documentation; promotion of the project

General Characteristics of the Language

Most speakers of the Slovenian language live in Slovenia. Slovenian is one of the few Indo-European languages that has retained the dual number. It has 25 letters used to represent 29 sounds, three grammatical numbers (singular, dual, and plural), six cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, locative, and instrumental) with eight declensions, and three grammatical genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter).

Voice units are classified as follows:

1. Vowels: i; narrow and wide e; a; narrow and wide o; u; semivowel [ə];
2. Consonants:
– voiced consonants: m, n; r, l; v, j;
– unvoiced consonants: p – b, f; t – d, s – z, c; š – ž, č – dž; and k – g, h.

A person with recognized international protection status receives a referral from their integration counselor at the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants (UOIM), which they must bring to:

Office hours:

Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.,
every Wednesday until 5:00 p.m.
There are no office hours on Fridays.

After an assessment of their language proficiency, participants are placed in a group that will be held at one of the language schools: Veris d.o.o. or Cene Štupar – CILJ.
