Slovenian Language Proficiency Exams
At the introductory A1 and basic A2/B1 levels.
In cooperation with the Center for Slovenian as a Second and Foreign Language (Department of Slovenian Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana), we administer Slovenian language proficiency exams at the entry-level (A1) and basic level (A2/B1) in accordance with the officially recognized educational program “Slovenian as a Second and Foreign Language.” The exams are intended for anyone who needs an officially recognized certificate of proficiency in Slovenian for official purposes (for example, for work or to obtain Slovenian citizenship).
Free entrance or basic-level exam:
- a referral issued by the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants (status of a person granted international protection);
- referral from the Employment Service of Slovenia;
- a certificate issued by an administrative unit
Candidates who are eligible for a free initial assessment of their knowledge of the Slovenian language at the introductory, basic, and advanced levels, as well as the excellence level, pursuant to the Regulation on Providing Assistance for the Integration of Foreigners Who Are Not Citizens of the European Union (PISRS) (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia No. 27/24), must submit, upon registration, the original Certificate of Eligibility for a Free First Slovenian Language Proficiency Test or the Certificate of Eligibility for Participation in a Slovenian Language Learning Program and for a Free first Slovenian language proficiency test, which they obtain from the competent administrative unit. The costs of taking the first Slovenian language proficiency test free of charge are covered by the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants and the European Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF).
A person under international protection who has entered into a contract with the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants regarding integration activities, will receive a referral from the Office for a one-time, free initial Slovenian language proficiency test.
The costs of taking the free initial Slovenian language proficiency test are covered by the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the Care and Integration of Migrants.
Exam Descriptions
The exams are based on the officially recognized educational program ” Slovenian as a Second and Foreign Language.” Information on the exam structure and grading:
- Beginner level (A1),
- basic level (A2/B1),
- These levels are comparable to those in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The Certificate of Proficiency in Slovenian as a Second and Foreign Language, issued by the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts, Department of Slovenian Studies, Center for Slovenian as a Second and Foreign Language, is a public document intended for handling official and other matters related to proving proficiency in Slovenian in the Republic of Slovenia.
