Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for co-creating episode 9 of the videocast ” H it R a znanja” with us, which we are preparing together with the Association of People’s Universities of Slovenia (Korak – Human Resources Development Centers) and the Trenkwalder HR company. The episode “How to reduce and respect sick leave” offered information and insight into the current situation regarding sick leave and child care leave.

In Episode 9, we focused on how to reduce and respect sick leave. We discussed the causes of sick leave and its impact on employees and employers.

Key Skills:

  1. According to data from the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) and the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS), a total of 17.2 million workdays were lost in Slovenia in 2022 due to temporary inability to work, which is 21% more than the previous year.

  1. There can be various reasons for sick leave. Is it essential for organizations to know why our employees are on sick leave?

  1. It is important to foster good relationships, strengthen personal responsibility, and build trust. When it comes to the health of our employees, let’s focus on preventive measures. Health is not just physical; it also encompasses the social, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of our well-being. Let’s keep this in mind when planning health promotion initiatives.

  1. When and how can we monitor an employee’s sick leave? Read the brochure and listen to the podcast.

  1. Expenditures for sick leave to care for children remain high: by the middle of last year, the amount had doubled to 32.1 million euros. According to preliminary data, the figure for January through June of this year stands at 32.3 million euros.

Štupar Prices – GOAL

Director of Operations and psychologist at the human resources firm Trenkwalder d.o.o., where she is responsible for business development as well as the growth and development of the workforce. In an international setting, she develops, tests, and then implements best practices in the broader field of organizational and human resources management. From a psychological perspective, she identifies and aligns the needs, desires, and expectations of both employees and employers. She helps companies and individuals achieve their organizational and career goals.

Marija Burnik began her medical training in 1993 and her residency in pediatrics in 2005. Since passing her specialty exam in 2013, she has been employed at the preschool clinic of the Ljubljana Health Center; her residency, however, took longer than the standard five years due to four maternity leaves. As a result, she now supplements her professional knowledge with her own experiences, which are often not strictly medical but also of a parenting nature. She observes that today’s parents, torn between work and home, are often overwhelmed by a flood of information, so she aims to provide them with both basic and more specific (more or less health-related) information in an understandable way, so that parents are as empowered as possible when it comes to caring for their children’s health.

She is a key account manager and HR consultant who has spent her entire career in the field of adult education. She has led lifelong career orientation workshops and participated in numerous European projects. She is involved in developing various psychological assessment tools, conducts testing and provides individual counseling for company employees, advises companies on strategic human resources development, and serves as a panelist at HR events.
